Wake up call!

I found a Yorkie running in the traffic and I can't open the door!

Never heard that phrase before while half asleep. It was early Monday morning and I had my bedroom window open. My 24 year old daughter Frances was at my window.

Turns out the wee beastie was running on the main road as Frances was driving. She pulled over and ran after it chasing about 1/2 a block. It didn't matter that she was wearing heels and a skirt (the daughter, not the dog).

No collar, running frantically through traffic. I think it weighed about 7 lbs. We sat on my front porch, trying to figure out what to do with it. It doesn't take long to bond with a 7 lbs. Yorkie. I named him "Wee Angus".

Wee Angus had no collar, no microchip that we could feel. He was unfixed. And he had a bad haircut. On first look I thought it was a good haircut that made him look like a Scottish Terrier, hence the name. But my daughter is a hairstylist who has a better eye and said someone had taken the scissors to him and done a hatchet job.

And when the owner called that would be one of his identifying features...

5 year old unfixed male Yorkie, no collar and a bad haircut. And his name is "Peanut".

Yes, she admitted she had taken the scissors to him.

In the meantime we bought him a collar (green plaid), a leash, a blanket and a bag of tiny pellet food. He was shaking with fright that first day. And amazingly my cats had accepted him.

The owner said he had gotten out of the yard because kids cut through and leave the gate open. Right. They hadn't called the Humane Society to report him missing. We did.

Put your dog on a tethered leash lady!! Bad owner, Bad owner!!

tether, n.
    1. A rope, chain, or similar restraint for holding an animal in place, allowing a short radius in which it can move about.
    2. A similar rope like restraint used as a safety measure, especially for young children and astronauts.
Tethers work for me...and your little dog too!

(Apparently)Works for young children and astronauts also (not that I am advocating tethering children!!)

GLUTEN doesn't work for me...

Someone at church asked me if I had a knee replacement. She asked where my cane went??? Was I healed or something?

Yea, I guess you could say that. I had prayed to find my pathway to healing. The answer came 4 years later when the new girl at work asked if I had ever tried going off gluten. I didn't even know what gluten was.

In the meantime, I had been taking some great supplements and going to physical rehab which helped and gave me some improvement. But the pain and swelling in my joints never went away completely. And at my very worst, I had rented a wheelchair.

I hadn't expected that removing wheat, rye, oats(some can tolerate oats but not me) and barley from my diet would change my life. But it has. I've had a few setbacks. Like when I realized that I was bathing in wheat filled shampoo, lotion and hair styling products. And the unexpected GLUTENATION from cross contact. I sometimes wonder what good is gluten if so many are allergic?!

This post is not meant to give you any in-depth info about going gluten free. Just do a search and you'll find lots of great blogs and sites for that. I am mainly proclaiming here that living gluten free can feel mighty good, so don't be afraid to try it, especially if you've tried other things and you're desperate like I was. Here's my story in more detail.

I feel good and have hope for continued improvement. And it's all because of one person who said:

Have you ever tried giving up gluten?

This post is part of Works for Me Wednesday...but for today it's What doesn't work!
