This is a post of love.
It is with pure love I tell you how much it has meant for me to be the sponser of Hakiza and his family. I haven't blogged about it before because I wasn't sure if I should. Does that sound crazy?
Then I got the email about the September assignment from Compassion International telling me to blog about the child I sponsor and what it has meant to me. I've been thinking about how to describe this experience. Instead I will just share my little one with you.
This is Hakiza. He is 12 years old and is in grade 3. He has 4 brothers and sisters and his parents work as farmers when work is available. His letter was dictated to a child development officer but Hakiza signed it himself."Your beloved son Hakiza says hello to you and sends love plus greetings from all his family members. He says he has drawn these good patterns for you to know so far what they study in "Writing" subject. He says he loves you so much.
He says they are now having some rainfalls unlike before when it was windy and sunny. Hakiza says he has a verse for you from Romans 8:35. He says it helps him to know that nothing should separate him from the love of Christ.
He says he likes playing football these days especially when it is games time and he is at school. He says he is requesting you to pray for him to work hard in class and make it to grade four next year.
He says he loves you so much and wishes you a lot of God's blessings.
from your child H A K I Z A"
In his first letter he asked that I pray that he would not "fall sick". His area is a designated HIV/AIDS high risk region.
How is it possible that I can love a child I have never touched, heard or held? I love my little Hakiza and I want the best for him: food, shelter and hope for the future.
I know that my $32 every month makes a difference in the life of his family. And I am happy to be one of the 256 bloggers for Compassion International.
I picked Hakiza because he had been waiting the longest for a sponsor.

What a neat post, Alex! We sponsor a child, Joseph, in Africa - I agree that it is very special to love someone you've never met. :)
That's so wonderful! What a great program!
What country is Hakiza in? When I traveled to Ethiopia on a mission trip, I visited many churches who had Compassion International children. They were the lucky ones who could go to school and whose families received food. God bless you for sponsoring Hakiza!
I forgot to say that Hakiza is in Uganda!
Thank you for telling your story.
If ever ned anything from Compasison, please let me know.
